Addressing the social determinants of health (SDH) is a priority area for all public health professionals, including those in environmental health protection. Yet, Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) are often not well represented in discussions about how to address SDH and health equity. The NCCs for Determinants of Health (NCCDH) and Environmental Health (NCCEH) are working together to explore the role of PHIs in addressing SDH and health equity in their practice.

This webinar explores how SDH and health equity impact environmental health practice, and considers the role of environmental health public health practitioners in addressing SDH and health equity.

NCCDH and NCCEH have jointly released Equity in environmental health practice: Findings of a Pilot Study . This qualitative study explored the role of PHIs in addressing SDH and health equity related issues that may present as barriers to compliance with public health protection regulations.

In this webinar we will explore front line strategies used by PHIs to support clients facing barriers related to the SDH, organizational factors that may facilitate environmental health practitioners to respond to these issues, and practical strategies to implement health equity considerations in environmental public health practice.
